Amaroo

Amaroo was conceived for Nornie Bero’s proposed new restaurant in a large warehouse site in Sydney’s Marrickville.  Nornie, a celebrity chef that celebrates indigenous ingredients is also an ambassador for the pride movement.  This design developed around Nornie’s stories from her idyllic islander childhood to becoming a successful chef with the proud iconic fringe.  These ideas were translated into a hospitality venue that celebrates the beauty that can be found on the outer edges of the norm.  Mural art was selected to tell Nornie's story from her island home to her current successes in urban cities.  To achieve this two levels were conceived to evoke a different emotion from each part of her story.  Colour became the tool to pull both levels together.  The colour palette of terracotta and teal was inspired from Nornie’s island home and then drawn from the artworks.  These colours became the foundation for creating a cohesive dining experience across both levels of the venue.

Amaroo was nominated as a finalist for the Dulux Colour Awards 2023.
